Gammage & Burnham is pleased to announce that Chambers USA 2019: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business has ranked six of the firm’s attorneys and our largest practice group among the best in the U.S.
Chambers and Partners, which produces “Chambers USA,” is a client referral organization that researches and subjectively ranks attorneys and law firm practice groups nationwide. It ranks firms and lawyers who are considered leaders in their profession.
Gammage & Burnham is proud to announce that eight attorneys have been named by Southwest Super Lawyers® magazine as being among the top attorneys in Arizona for 2019. Additionally, two attorneys were named to the 2019 Southwest Rising Stars list.
Super Lawyers®, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service that recognizes outstanding lawyers who have gained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Statewide selections are made annually using a multi-phased process that includes independent peer nominations, peer evaluations, and research. No more than five percent of total lawyers in a state are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers.
Congratulations to Gammage & Burnham partners Joseph P. Richardson and Grady Gammage, Jr. for their recognition as two of the Top 100 Lawyers in Arizona. This list of exceptional lawyers is published annually by AZ Big Media and features a range of practicing attorneys from throughout the state.
Joseph Richardson is recognized in the areas of business organizations and commercial transactions. His practice is centered around representing both sellers and buyers in mergers, acquisitions and other entity-based transactions. He was recently recognized by Best Lawyers in America as “Lawyer of the Year” in Phoenix for 2019.
Gammage & Burnham partners Michael King, Cameron Artigue and Christopher Hering helped protect funding for stadiums and other sports and tourism-related ventures with a recent victory in the Arizona Supreme Court. (Saban Rent-a-Car v. Arizona Department of Revenue). This victory ends the long-running challenge (this litigation lasted 14 years) to the surcharges on car rentals that have funded such efforts for decades.
The challengers–a group of car-rental companies–initially persuaded the court that surcharges on car rentals violated an obscure provision in Arizona’s Constitution, which requires taxes related to the operation of motor vehicles to be expended on highways.

He earned ample courtroom experience, having appeared in almost every state and federal court in Arizona, plus several tribal courts. He served as lead counsel in multiple jury trials and conducted countless bench trials, injunction hearings, and oral arguments.
