APA & Arizona State Bar 2021 Land Use Update with Grady Gammage Jr., Cameron Artigue, and Susan Demmitt!
June 4, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
Join G&B Founder Grady Gammage Jr. and Partners Cameron C. Artigue and Susan E. Demmitt for the APA and Arizona State Bar 2021 Land Use Update!
The COVID-19 pandemic changed how Arizonans perceive and use their homes. The results? Skyrocketing housing prices, plummeting housing availability, and a worsened affordable housing crisis. This year’s keynote panel of leading experts will discuss and analyze the affordable housing calamity in the opening session.
The second session will feature our most entertaining and enlightening land use scholars dissecting the United States Supreme Court’s 2019 regulatory takings case, Knick v. Township of Scott, and the Arizona Supreme Court’s 2021 Gift Clause case, Schires v. Carlat. Feel free to make your regulatory takings claim into a federal case, but don’t expect to receive a government handout for bringing economic development to Arizona.
After breaking for lunch, the third session is a remote version of our annual audience-interactive session on ethics for planners and lawyers.
This year’s program concludes with a discussion of the continuing Airbnb controversy, featuring the mayor of a town teeming with vacation-homes and a representative of the Arizona Vacation Rental Association.
