Vanessa MacDonald has been involved in the Land Use arena for 20 years. A lifelong Tempe resident, Vanessa was appointed in 2002 by then-Mayor of Tempe Neil Giuliano to serve on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission. She has served the City of Tempe as Chair of both the Development Review Commission and the Redevelopment Review Commission, and as Hearing Officer, a position she currently maintains.
Vanessa was the Entitlement Manager at online automotive retailer Carvana for two years, when the company was in its startup phase, and traveled the country seeking entitlements for their unique car vending machine platform. She has worked as a Land Use Planner for nine years. As a Planner, she has experience in most jurisdictions in the Phoenix area, and has worked on gaining approvals on projects ranging in size from small infill developments to a large liquid hydrogen manufacturing facility.
Vanessa is the proud mom of two grown children, Julia and Jack, both of whom live in Maine. Julia is a litigation associate at Pierce Atwood, LLC, and Jack is currently in his 2nd year of law school at the University of Maine. Vanessa spends her free time working out, hiking, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with her father, boyfriend Jeff, family and friends.
