SUMMARY:Susan Demmitt on Panel for Valley Partnership Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:  \nPartner Susan Demmitt will be speaking on the panel for “Rising Demand\, Soaring Costs: The Next Wave of Valley Homebulding”! \nFor more information about this event or to purchase tickets\, click here! \nEvent Description: \n“The demand for housing in the Valley isn’t the only thing that has changed since Arizona came out of the Great Recession; from an uptick in land residuals to rising material and labor costs while impact and plan review fees increase\, the costs of development and homebuilding have steadily grown and significantly impacted the overall cost of housing in Arizona. As hundreds of new residents move into Maricopa County every day\, analysts have expressed concern with the ability of Valley homebuilders to combat what some are calling hyper-inflation and supply enough affordable housing options as the industry deals with these ever-increasing costs. What steps should the real estate industry take to combat these increases? And how will it affect the rapid growth the Valley continues to experience? \nOur September Friday Morning Breakfast will host an expert-driven discussion on the rising demand and soaring costs that are impacting development and homebuilding in the Valley. You’ll hear where industry leaders think costs will continue to escalate\, how contractors are addressing labor shortages\, why municipal and state governments still play a role in housing prices and what builders are doing to integrate the new demands of homebuyers with their future housing communities. One of our most popular events of the year\, you will not want to miss our September Friday Morning Breakfast!” \n

SUMMARY:Arizona Author Series with Grady Gammage\, Jr.
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to attend a free presentation “The Future of the Suburban City: Lessons From Sustaining Phoenix” from Gammage & Burnham partner Grady Gammage\, Jr. on Thursday\, March 28\, at 1:00 p.m. at the Polly Rosenbaum State Archives and History Building\, 1901 W. Madison Street\, Phoenix. Arizona residents can read this book for free on the Reading Arizona eBook platform. \nThis event is part of the 2019 Arizona Author Series\, hosted by Arizona State Library\, Archives and Public Records\, a division of the Arizona Secretary of State. Please be advised that there is no food or drink allowed in the Polly Rosenbaum Archives and History Building. Free parking and convenient bus access is available.  \n \nThere exists a category of American cities in which the line between suburban and urban is almost impossible to locate. These suburban cities arose in the last half of twentieth-century America\, based largely on the success of the single-family home\, shopping centers\, and the automobile. The low-density\, auto-centric development of suburban cities\, which are largely in the arid West\, presents challenges for urban sustainability as it is traditionally measured. Yet\, some of these cities—Los Angeles\, Las Vegas\, Phoenix\, Salt Lake\, Dallas\, Tucson\, San Bernardino\, and San Diego—continue to be among the fastest growing places in the United States. \nIn The Future of the Suburban City\, Phoenix native Grady Gammage\, Jr. looks at the promise of the suburban city as well as the challenges. He argues that places that grew up based on the automobile and the single-family home need to dramatically change and evolve. But suburban cities have some advantages in an era of climate change\, and many suburban cities are already making strides in increasing their resilience. Gammage focuses on the story of Phoenix\, which shows the power of collective action — government action — to confront the challenges of geography and respond through public policy. He takes a fresh look at what it means to be sustainable and examines issues facing most suburban cities around water supply\, heat\, transportation\, housing\, density\, urban form\, jobs\, economics\, and politics. \nThe Future of the Suburban City is a realistic yet hopeful story of what is possible for any suburban city.\n[https://islandpress.org/books/future-suburban-city]

SUMMARY:Nicole Ricker to moderate panel at Phoenix State of Office event
DESCRIPTION:Partner Nicole Ricker will be a moderator at the upcoming Phoenix State of Office event produced by Bisnow.\n \nThe region’s office market has been cautious since the Recession\, and understandably so. New construction has not been a priority\, and spec space a rarity. \nHowever\, we’re beginning to see vacancy decline and increased demand for space in the market. Chandler and Tempe alone\, while they do account for 80% of the pipeline\, are seeing 2.5 M SF of new construction. \nAs demand continues to rise\, developers are responsive\, though are they responsive enough? With rapidly increasing need for space and rising rents\, the market may be approaching a new quandary. \nWhat does all of this mean for you? Join us and the region’s market leaders as we assess the office market\, forecast its growth and strategize Greater Phoenix’ success. \nOther speakers include Chris Anderson (Hines)\, Molly Ryan Carson (Ryan Companies)\, Sintra Hoffman (WESTMARC)\, David Krumwiede (Lincoln Property Company)\, David Norouzi (Fenix Development)\, Stanton Shafer (Holualoa Companies)\, and Matt Shock (DPR Construction). \nTickets required. SUMMARY:Colleen's Dream Golf Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Gammage & Burnham is a proud sponsor of Colleen’s Dream Foundations and the Annual Colleen’s Dream Golf Tournament.\nColleen’s Dream Foundation is a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to funding investigational scientific research with the primary goal of developing an accurate early detection test for ovarian cancer. Currently\, no such test exists\, making ovarian cancer the deadliest of all gynecological cancers. Colleen’s Dream was founded in 2012 by Nicole Cundiff and her husband\, Billy\, a 12-year veteran kicker in the NFL. In the short time Colleen’s Dream has been operational\, it has garnered unfathomable support and has quickly become the largest\, privately funded\, ovarian cancer specific nonprofit in the state of Arizona. \nThis annual golf event\, which has sold out every year for the last five years\, helps to raise funds for the foundation to support it’s mission. \nMore details: https://www.colleensdream.org/events/

DESCRIPTION:Gammage & Burnham is a proud sponsor of the 2019 Urban Land Institute annual Trends Day event.\nULI Arizona Trends Day is a one-day deep dive bringing together 25+ top industry experts to discuss the most current state and national real estate trends\, with a focus on what to expect in the future\, where the best opportunities can be found\, and how these components affect both public and private sector partners. \n  \nCheck out the housing panel sponsored by Gammage & Burnham: \n“The Future of Housing: Finding the Right Fit for Changing Demographics\nSponsored By: Gammage & Burnham\nThere appears to be a recent shift in what customers want when it comes to housing.   Design and upgrades still matter\, but the real focus is on housing that fits the needs of the customer’s life—instead of separating the customer’s life (where they work/play/mingle) from his or her house\, the residence is no longer as much a “retreat” as it is a place to go to be part of one’s community and enhance a person’s lifestyle.  Is this a trend or is it here to stay?  How does this shift affect more traditional housing?  Does this focus affect one generation more strongly than the other?  How does cost and affordability play a part in development?  This panel will be challenged to answer the question of who is the future housing customer and what are they looking for in the now and the near future\, but to also look further down the road–What other changes are coming and how are we planning for them?  Are we ready? \nHeidi Kimball\, Senior Vice President\, Sunbelt Holdings – Moderator\nJosh Hartmann\, President and Chief Operating Officer\, NexMetro Communities\nRandy Levin\, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director\, University Realty\nPatricia Watts\, Senior Partner and Director of Planning\, Deco Communities” \n  \nSee more in the agenda: https://arizona.uli.org/trends-day-2019/
